This is Tithis, a lovely octopus that I met the other day. I actually noticed her in one of Diver’s photos before I even made her acquaintance. Her form is of her own creation, and as you can see, it’s fantastic. There’s such a deluge of tails and tail-makers now, but so little variety (with a few notable exceptions). Considering how diverse life is within the sea, I hope in time we’ll start to see more creations like this. Rightly so—merfolk are some of the most imaginative I’ve met within Second Life.
Tithis’ cephalopod avatar isn’t yet for sale, but I’ll let you know when she opts to make it available.
What are some of the more interesting aquatic avatars you’ve seen in the digital oceans? What would you like to see that you haven’t seen yet?

Partly due to my inability to be in the SL seas on a regular basis, partly due to her wild enthusiasm for al-things-mer that rivals my own, I’ve asked fellow mermaid Divergence Magic to contribute a highlight of weekly mer and seafolk-centered events and news, as she already does quite well on her own blog. Diver is well-connected to the mer-community and will have lots of great info to offer you! It certainly takes a weight off my back to know that she’s on-board.

If you’ll look in the right side bar, a little down the page, you’ll see I’ve started to collect a list of links to merfolk bloggers in Second Life. If your name isn’t on that list, please do get in touch! A comment will do nicely.
Swim@: The Degrand Channel November 30, 2008

The Degrand Channel is a large, open expanse of water six sims wide. Across those sims you will find the remains of an ancient land-dwelling civilization, underwater volcanoes, shipwrecks from times past and present, and a number of treasure chests holding relics for your avatar. After some inspection, it looks to be a project of the Linden Department of Public Works. Their work here is to be applauded!
I can’t stress the amount of detail and interesting things to see here. Hope to see you all there!

I’ve had a few comments and questions in the past few days about my ever-present shine. What’s the secret? Well, aside from daily kelp wraps and eel oil rubs, a friend showed me that an application of Nyoko’s body oil does wonders for the skin and scales. The oil is available in four levels of shine and comes with clothing for every body layer. There’s also body glitter available in a comparable spectrum of choices.
Because of layering, it doesn’t always work with every mermaid outfit on the market, but (shameless plug) It does work with mine! If you have any NiXiE tail kit, you can wear the body oil on the shirt and pants layers, and wear the scales on the underwear layers. You can even wear a scant tail color on the sock layer and have a two-color blend!
Now then, next time I see you, you’d best be looking wet, shiny, and sexy!
- Price: 375L$; Set of all grades $1,200

Beautiful, mostly underwater sim. Has an awesome sea floor texture (the lack of which is usually a pet peeve of mine in other underwater areas). Many fun things to see and do as a mer, including…

Let me, Azaiya Aeon, guide you towards the very best in mermaid items from across the grid.

As a mer, I’m known to be very blue. I’ve never quite understood why so many mers elect to wear human skin when there are so many more interesting choices available. Then again, I’ve never understood why so many people elect to be human in their Second Life when there are so many more interesting choices available. Anyway, as I’ve lived on a mermaid on the grid, I began with my regular human skin, but after a while started using colored skins. Colored skins are fun, exotic, and add another fun dimension to your avatar to play with. Show up to the beach with shimmering aqua skin and scales and you’re sure to turn a few heads. (more…)

There’s a mermaid shoot in the lastest issue of Second Style Magazine. None of my tails seem to have made it in, though
