Boojum is a cluster of Caribbean islands that features some mer-friendly areas. Do try the “pose bubbles” in the middle of the gathering area you see pictured; they’ll take you on a soothing swim that will rotate your camera and relax you. Enjoy the reggae on the local stream as well. I didn’t get many good photos of this place, and one of the resident hostesses told me that there was a bit more to explore, so I’ll be going back. Anyone care to join me?

It’s been a while since I’ve checked in with Tekelili Tantalus’ work, so when I found out that he had created a line of merfolk avatars, I had to dash over. Needless to say, I was quite dazzled in that I found not only some fantastic fins, but a pile of new Jewelry and accessories to boot.

Not necessarily an aquatic sim, but this build near Tekelili Tantalus’ Dark Creations shop does have a lovely network of caves which can be toured completely by water (boats are offered for setanim and other land-walkers). Use Torley’s "That Spells Moon 4" windlight preset for best results.

There are some interesting sculptures, alien vegetation, and underwater art to see in this Rezzable sim. It’s a bit sparse, but worth a trip. These are the kinds of things I need to see more of in aquatic sims, not giant clamshells and pearls.

I don’t know why I haven’t blogged about Aquaria yet. It’s a new merfolk sim that features something I’ve not seen before: Actual activity! Every time I go there, I find finned folk around. The owner, Solan Nightfire, has put countless hours of effort into creating a fun RP community for merfolk and making sure the community stays active. I haven’t been able to be around Aquaria as much as I would like, but please do go visit.
Here’s a calendar of this week’s events. I know it’s already the 20th, but I thought I might give a flavor for what goes on there:

Come join us for a fantastic evening filled with relaxing tunes by some of the best performers in the sea. Have you noticed the spores in the sea? Well we hope you’ve been collecting them. Our annual spore festival will be set off at the Temple of Poseidon this Saturday. At that time we will be asking everyone who has been collecting spores during this season to create a box with all of your spores in it – so they can be turned in to our panel of judges for prizes. We will then follow this cerimony with an honorary dance and other festivities in celebration of Posiedon and his blessings in our sea.June 22th | 8:00pm (SLT) | FLIP/FLOP: A MER DANCE @ Vulcus Stadium!
Join us for an exciting evening at Vulcus Stadium filled with cash and good times! We will be having a mer dance as well as a costume contest! We are looking for the BEST UNDERWATER HEADRESSES in all of the sea! 1st prize is $250 Linden, 2nd prize is $100 Linden. So We hope to see you there!

If you’re looking to get your mermaid avatar fix on flickr ,there’s a new mermaid-only photo group, SL Mermaids, that just started. Until now, to my knowledge, the only place to find a collective of mermaid photos has been the Undersea Second Life group (still worth following!).
Edit: I did find another mermaid group, Mermaids of Second Life, though there doesn’t seem to be much activity?

Here’s an image of me as Azaiya Boa (in the back) from about a year ago. I think I still looked pretty good! I should put that avatar back together. The other mermaid is the very fun Mewf Demina, whom I haven’t seen in a long time. She’s pretty imaginative with the mermaid avs she puts together.
